The founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Ji birth was a blessings to unfortunates, deprived, exploited people at the hands of mercy less ruthless called to be upper caste. The deprived class was exploited in such a extent that it was administered to be a sin for a lower class to hear a name of God or visit a temple.
The message of Guru Nanak was if you cannot see God in all then you cannot see him at all. The way to contemplation is not mountains of rituals but purity of heart and soul. The message of Guru Nanak was that we all have born the same way and will go the same, a person is considered superior not by the birth but by the merits he possess.
Guru Nanak condemned rituals openly and sought to see beyond the illusions of everyday existence in order to achieve sahaj or union with God. For Guru Nanak Ji and his predecessors, God was simultaneously transcendent, or beyond the ordinary range of perception and immediately immanent, or existing within humanity. According to Guru Nanak Ji, the goal of sahaj could not be achieved by either reclusive asceticism or ritual observances but only by the constant practice of spiritual discipline (sadhana) under the guidance of the Guru.

Know this world to be transient like a dream,
a stage in which we act and depart,
nothing in it is true and lasting, says Nanak:
besides the light of God
According to the Guru,
God existed all alone in his abstract form - Nirgun - before he created the Universe. This may be called the state of procreation. God was in the state of sunn samadhi:state of pre-creation, state of contemplation of the void.
The Guru stressed on the five vices, which keeps us away from contemplation and they were
Kam (lust), Krodh (anger), Lobh (greed), Moh (worldly attachment) and Ahankar (pride). If one can overcome them, they can achieve salvation.
Guru Nanak believed to enlighten the people by showing the presence of God,and help awake the sleeping souls who were engulfed with rituals and performing of dogmas,Guru said "They go to holy places for a bath, their minds are impure and bodies are like thieves, if by bath their dirt drops down, they got on themselves twice as much dirt and ego." (Guru Nanak, Var Suhi)
"You calculate the auspicious moments, but do not realise, that God is far above the effects of these auspicious moments." (Guru Nanak, Ramkali)
Once Guru Nanak was bathing in a river when he saw Brahmins throwing water to the sun. He asked one Brahmin what the purpose of this ritual was and the Brahmin replied that people are throwing water at their departed ancestors. With this in mind, Guru Nanak began throwing water opposite to the sun. When a Brahmin noticed he yelled at Guru Nanak and asked him what he was doing? Guru Nanak replied, I'm offering this water to my fields in Punjab which are due west from here. The Brahmin accused Guru Nanak as being mad and said, How can this water reach your fields in Punjab? Guru Nanak replied, The same way your water reaches your ancestors.Guru showed a sense of direction to those who were lost.
Guru Nanak's life involved many long journeys, which were accompanied by Mardana and Bala his two devotee's. Once he went to Mecca, the holy seat of Muslim faith. When he reached Mecca, Guruji was quite tired and decided to rest so he laid down and fell asleep. As he was peacefully asleep, a local Quazi noticed the way Guruji was sleeping with his feet towards the Holy Kaba, God's dwelling place. As he shouted Guru Nanak Ji awoke and kindly asked the Quazi to move his feet in the direction away from God's dwelling place. As the Quazi moved Guruji's feet, the Holy Kaba also moved at the same time accordingly. When people witnessed this, they were amazed and realized Guru Nanak,as the people bowed in respect Guru Nanak Ji exclaimed that,
"God is present everywhere...every particle of the world is a part of his divine light.,therefore it is useless to interpret anyone as being small or big, rich or poor, weak or strong.
Guru considered the love to be supreme then mere show of.
After Guru Nanak, Guru Angad Dev Ji ascended to the seat,he was tested many times by the Guru to be worthy,at one time,Guru Nanak tested his two sons along with Guru Angad, whose earlier name was Bhai Lehna, one such day Guru Nanak was walking with his two sons and Bhai Lehna, when they came across something that looked like a corpse. Guruji ordered the three men to eat it. Guruji's two sons thought their father was crazy but Lehna uncovered the sheet and discovered it was sacred food. Bhai Lehna first gave it to Guruji and his sons, only then he ate what was left. Guruji then spoke to Lehna with extreme love.
"Lehna, you were blessed with the sacred food because you could share it with others. If the people use the wealth bestowed on them by God for themselves alone or for treasuring it, it is like a corpse. But if they decide to share it with others, it becomes sacred food. You have known the secret. You are my image."
So at the time of appointing Guru Angad to the seat,Guru Nanak folded his two hands lower his head as a respect and offered five paise, since the light of God was now passing in Guru Angad Dev Ji.One thing important here is Guru forbid there worship in any way,it was the light of God which was in them, and they wanted the lost souls to merge with infinite, and break the cycle of rebirth.
The Janamsakhi story records that after Guru Nanak Dev Ji's , both Hindus and Muslims wanted to perform the last rites. According to their customs, the Hindus wanted to cremate Guru Nanak Sahib body, the Muslims, wanted to bury it. But when the sheet was pulled away, nothing was there but flowers. According to the story, the sheet and the flowers were divided between the Muslims and the Hindus, to be disposed of according to the beliefs of each group. The body of Guru Nanak Dev Ji disappeared, leaving behind the message of universal harmony for generations to come. Since the same light, the same jot was passed from one Guru to the next. It is our responsibility to respect and acknowledge these divine teachings contained within the everlasting Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, whereas only they will provide everlasting spiritual nourishment for masses.
